Who wouldn’t like to see how many people would come to their funeral? Well, more or less that’s what happened just before Christmas at La Ferté-Bernard, in the department of Sarthe in northern France to Mr. Patrice Leroy, a 57-year-old man who had just been married for a couple of weeks. As he read his newspaper, as every morning, he realized that he had been dead for two days, or rather that his name, complete with age and other information, was among the obituaries of the week. The Leroy family was fairly well known in the city and in the days before the discovery, his wife had received several phone calls from tearful relatives and friends who called to be close to the widow. Initially, nobody could understand what was happening, so Patrice decided to go to the Town Hall to understand what was happening. And so he discovered that it was a 57-year-old gentleman named Patrice who had died but not Leroy like him but Riant. However, the municipality insisted that it had made no mistake, as the data they had received to validate Mr. Leroy’s death was correct, they had only transcribed it and did not want to take responsibility for modifying it. The gentleman had to proceed with a complaint, which went on for a while and remained practically dead for a few weeks before he was able to fix his situation.
