7 really effective natural remedies for acne

Acne is a very common skin disease that affects both males and women from adolescence to adulthood. Acne generally affects the face but often also appears on the chest and back. There are several natural remedies to combat acne, from tea tree to sage, discover all the natural cures for acne.

Acne is a skin disease caused by inflammation of the hair follicles: excess sebum produced by the glands clogs the follicles and causes an infection, with the formation of cysts under the skin.

1. Tea tree

The essential oil of Tea tree or melaleuca seems to be the most effective among the essential oils useful for the treatment of acne-affected skin. The effectiveness of the Tea tree essential oil is due to its antibacterial action. Like almost all essential oils, even that of Tea tree should not be used pure but dispersed in another substance; a drop can be added to a teaspoon of jojoba wax, to be applied to the face and body with a cotton pad.

2. Burdock

Burdock powder is obtained from the roots of the Arctium lappa and is a drug rich in chlorogenic acid, tannins and mucilages that give it astringent and soothing properties. With burdock powder you can get an infusion to use as a morning and evening tonic on the skin of the face and body, applying it with a cotton pad.

3. Vegetable-based masks

In general, the masks are not recommended for those suffering from acne because they tend to clog the skin and do not let it breathe; however, this is not the case for fruit and vegetable-based masks which, thanks to the presence of acid substances, are instead a great help for acne-affected skin. In fact, the acids present in plants have an exfoliating and astringent action.

Vegetables such as cucumbers, strawberries and tomatoes are the most suitable for effective acne masks: just apply slices of cucumber or strawberry or tomato puree to the areas affected by acne for about twenty minutes. To keep the mixture still on the skin, it is advisable to apply sterile gauze. After the laying time, the residues are eliminated with warm water and the treatment can be repeated once or twice a week.

4. Sage

Sage has sebum-regulating and antibacterial properties useful for fighting facial and body acne. You can use hydrolase, the sage infusion, to prepare with five / ten fresh sage leaves in a cup of water or the essential oil of Clary Sage. Hydrolate and the infusion are used as a tonic on the skin of the face and body, while the essential oil is added to detergents, masks or creams.

To moisturize the skin of the body that has acne, you can, for example, add 50 drops of essential oil of Clary Sage to 50 ml of hazelnut oil: this way you can get an excellent moisturizing and astringent body oil, which can be used all the days.

5. Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid is extracted from the bark of the willow (Salix nigra) and has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and regenerating properties. When applied to the skin, salicylic acid has an exfoliating and regenerating effect and helps eliminate the signs and scars caused by acne.

To reap the benefits of this natural ingredient, it is sufficient to buy cosmetics that contain it among the active ingredients: it is generally used in the formulations of creams and antibacterial detergents specific for the treatment of acne.

6. Lavender

Lavender has an excellent astringent, antibacterial and soothing action. Acne sufferers will find great benefit in using lavender to reduce irritation, redness of the skin and the formation of pimples. Both the hydrolase and the essential oil can be used: the first can be used as a tonic after cleansing the face, while the essential oil can be added to detergents, masks, and anti-acne creams.

7. Lemon

Lemon is a valid ally for those suffering from acne because it is a good natural disinfectant; moreover, thanks to the acid substances contained in it, the lemon helps to lighten the skin and to make the dark marks left by acne less evident.

To benefit from the lemon, once or twice a week, you can pass a cotton ball soaked in lemon juice over the areas affected by the acne: leave it to act for about five minutes and rinse with warm water. Lemon juice is quite aggressive, so it is not recommended for particularly delicate skin.
